CINCINNATI HOUSE/FOEGEN HALL

The 1879-80 Muskegon City Directory had this to say:

Peter Foegen Prop., “Cincinnati Lager Beer Saloon”

“The establishment of this popular gentleman is located on the s.w. corner of Clay Ave. and Ninth Street and has long held a warm place in the estimation of the public. Mr. Foegen is one of Muskegon’s oldest residents having been here since 1855, and is a gentleman of much enterprise, he owns the block in which the saloon is located, and also in the same building runs an extensive boarding house, furnishing excellent board at the most moderated rates. The goods at his bar are of the best quality, a fact which has evidently been discovered judging from the popularity of his place and the large amount of patronage accorded it. Mr. Foegen is one of our intimate friends and we have much pleasure in speaking of him in this department of our work. He is a gentleman of sterling qualities and one whose word is bond. He owns and manages “Foegen’s Hall,” and is also assistant engineer of the Muskegon fire department.”

At the turn of the century, the saloon was listed at 352 W. Clay Ave.
